Pure tungsten is prone to crack when jarred or dropped. When milling it I find it very tough on sharp cornered tools, but with a bull radius (.015) instead of a sharp corner, my tool life typically increases by 3x or more. Does anyone have empirical data on coated carbide cutting tools versus non-coated carbide tools for machining tungsten?

بیشترThe brittle nature of tungsten is a trait shared with cast iron, another frequently machined metal. Cast iron machining provides a loose guide, and tungsten machining will use turning speeds and feed rates similar to that of cast iron. It assumes the use of commonly available C-2 tungsten carbide-tipped tools or full carbide mill ends and inserts.
بیشترof copper and copper alloys Machining copper alloys is considerably easier than machining steels or alumin-ium alloys of the same strength (see Figure 1). This is reflected in the signif-icantly lower cutting forces as shown in Figure 2. Unless specific technical requirements dictate the use of another material, free-cutting brass CuZn39Pb3

بیشترTungsten nickel copper alloys. The non-magnetic cousin to tungsten nickel iron alloys is the tungsten nickel copper alloys. They are about as popular as nickel-iron alloys, but generally, have lower tensile strength (500-700 MPa) and ductility. They are great electrical conductors and are easy to machine despite their high mechanical strength.
بیشترTitanium Machining Guide Machining Guides • Titanium Machining Guides Machinability of Titanium Alloys Machining of titanium alloys is as demanding as the cutting of other high-temperature materials. Titanium components are machined in the forged condition and often require removal of up to 90% of the weight of the workpiece.
بیشترAs long as the braze material has a melting point below the recrystallization temperature of tungsten (under 2200 o F), embrittlement can be avoided. Copper or silver alloys containing small proportions of nickel or iron are suitable for these applications. Machining and Grinding: Tungsten can be machined by turning, milling, or drilling.

بیشترTungsten-Copper- Machining. The principal Tungsten/Copper alloys contain from 2% to 45% copper by weight. The addition of copper increases the thermal conductivity of the alloy while reducing the hardness and modulus of rupture. The machining and grinding characteristics of tungsten/copper alloys are similar to those of hard grey cast iron.
